Superman Time Line (of the actors playing him)

I was bored, so I thought I'd type this up for everyone, just in case anyone was interested smile.gif And yes, it's all in order, enjoy!
*******************************************************************************

1. Clayton "Bud" Collyer was the first actor to portray the character, on air in the Superman on Radio show from 1940 - 1950.

2. Kirk Alyn played Superman in the first two television series, both with 15 episodes, in 1948 and 1950. The first was titled Superman. The 2nd series was titled Atom Man VS Superman. Actress Noel Neill played the first Lois Lane in both series (she can be seen now in the recent Superman Returns as 'Gertrude' who Lex Luthor takes over her Estate and belongings).

3. From 1951 - 57, George Reeves doned the blue tights in the tv show The Adventures of Superman. Actress Phyllis Coates played Lois Lane from 1951 untill in 1953 she was replaced and Noel Neill reprised her role Lois until the show's end in 1957.

4. In 1966, Superman flew all the way onstage in the Broadway comedy/musical It's a Bird It's a Plane It's Superman. Stage actor Bob Holiday was choosen for the role. While it's been said that most of the songs were rather catchy, the all over idea didn't really get audiences that excited and after only 5 months, the show ended.

5. The musical was adapted to fit in a tv network special in 1975. Actor David Wilson played Clark Kent/Superman.

6. In 1978, the first full length feature film is released entitled Superman: The Movie, and starred Christopher Reeves, who has been regarded by fans as the best and most recognised Superman to date. In 1980 he reprised the role for the sequal, and again in 1983. In 1987 the forth and final Superman film starring Christopher was released. Actress Margot Kidder starred as Lois Lane in all four, Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor in 3 films and Annette O'Toole as Lana Lang in the 3rd film (who can been seen now as Martha Kent in Smallville). Actor Marc McClure portrayed Jimmy Olsen in all four films, as well as the Supergirl film in 1984. Marlon Brando played Jor-El, Superman's father within the films.

7. From 1988 - 1992 the television show Superboy aired for four seasons. In Season 1, actor John Haymes Newton played the role as a young CK/Supes from 1988-89. From 1990-92 he was replaced with actor Gerard Cristopher. During the show, the character of Lana Lang was portrayed by actress Stacy Haiduk.

8. 1993 - 1997 gave us Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman for our television viewing experience. The lucky fellow to fly high in the sky was actor Dean Cain. This show was structured a little differently from previous incarntations of the character. Clark, as an adult, only just started to learn about who he was, where he was from, what he could do etc. Both his human parents Martha and Jonthan Kent are alive. Lex Luthor, played by actor John Shea is portrayed with a slightly campesque allure to him. And Lois Lane is portrayed by future desperate housewife, Terri Hatcher as a sharp tongued, all bulls and horns newsreporter. The show focused more on the relationship between Lois and Clark and their eventual budding romance, than Superman.

9. From 1996 - 2000, Superman went back to his original comic book life, in a way, with the cartoon show, Superman: The Animated Series. The man to voice the role was Tim Daley. Other cartoon shows starring Superman are Justice League, voiced by George Newbern, in Krypto: The Superdog, Michael Dangerfield voices Superman. Last year (2006) the new animated show Legion of Super Heroes aired and stars Yuri Lowenthal as the voice for Young Superman.

10. Since it first aired in 2001, the hit show Smallville has been entertaining us for the past 6 years, and it due to for at least another two. The concept of the show originally was centered around Clark Kent (Tom Welling) as a teenager before his life as Superman in Metropolis. As the show has progressed throughout the years, we have seen the future Man of Steel, and his friends, inc. the love of his teen years Lana Lang (Kirstin Kreuk) and his future arch nemises Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) all grow up around each other. The show put a different twist on the dynamic between Lex and Clark, having them start as friends before showing them solely as foes. Towards the recent few seasons, we have seen the change in the relationship between the two main characters from sunny to dark, as each of them begin to slowly embrace their destiny.

11. In 2006 our cinemas once again found truth, justice and hope as Superman Returns flew into our world. The lucky young man to play the newest rendition of the caped crusader is Brandon Routh, who will reprise the role for the next two films. The film focused on Superman coming back to Earth, after a 5 year absence in search of Krypton after finding out that scientists had located where it once was, unto which many things, both around the world, and in his own personal life changed. The dynamic between Lois and Clark was changed significantly with Lois's (Kate Bosworth) attentions placed around her new man Richard (James Marsden) and their Jason, who is later in the film, revealed as actually being the son of Superman instead. Lex Luthor is portrayed by actor Kevin Spacey as a slightly campy evil real estate tycoon instead of a megalomanic President. Jimmy Olsen is played by Jim Huntington, and in the scene where Clark and Jimmy are in the bar, Bo the Barman is played by Jack Larson who was orginal Jimmy back in 1951.

12. Later in 2007, two DVD Animated Films are to be released concearning Superman. The first, titled Superman: Doomsday will feature Hollywood actor Adam Baldwin as the voice of Superman, Anne Heche as Lois Lane and Lex Luthor will be voiced by James Marsters (Buffy's Spike and Smallville's Dr Milton Fine/ Brainiac).
The 2nd film, Justice League: New Frontier, will feature actor Kyle MacLachlan as the voice for Superman, David Boreanaz as The Green Lantern, Lucy Lawless as Wonder Woman and Brooke Shields as the voice for Carol Ferris.
