Kirstin Kreuk will be returning for season 8.
In a recent statement Kirstin said "I will return for a undetermined, although small, number of episodes in season 8." As Kirstin is currently in Thailand filming the Street Fighter movie, she will not be making many appearances in season 7 either.

Oh bummer but at least we will see her in something different - SF
I must admit her character was getting a bit boring.
I dont look forward to lana and clark scenes, as they they are predictable and nothing much happening. I like it when there is drama ie lana and lex. I hated their relationship of course but god it was exciting.

I think the ratings will drop a little, but hopefully die-hard fans will still watch it... The writers should be able to work around lex's absence (I hope!). As long as the CW don't stop producing it I'm happy!

Thats why they are bringing in the new villains to take the emphasis off the lex/clark rivalry

Here's the official letter from Michael to Smallville fans on the KryptonSite-

Dear Smallville Fans,

Well, it's been seven wonderful years.  Your support is what has made Smallville so successful, and I appreciate you all more than you know.

That being said, it is time for me to start the next chapter of my life and career.  I hope that I gave you some enjoyment over the years, and that you found my portrayal of Lex Luthor to be satisfying.  I am truly grateful, as Smallville fans are the best fans out there.  I sincerely hope that you will continue to follow my career through my hair growth period and beyond.

I'm very excited about what the future holds, but certainly, Smallville will always be a part of me.  I will definitely miss the greatest crew in the world, and the wonderful cast that has been like a family to me.

Thank you Al and Miles for creating the show.  Thank you writers, producers, directors and editors. Thanks Tollin, Robbins and Davola for being there for the pilot. Thank you Peter Roth for employing me for ten years.  Lisa Lewis, I miss you already.  John Glover, thanks for helping me feel more comfortable touching other actors, while acting. Bizarre, but helpful.

Mostly, I want to thank Greg Beeman for directing the "Oh Sherry" video, by Steve Perry, back in the 80's.

Thanks crew. Thanks fans. Thanks Smallville.

I love you all,

Michael Rosenbaum

And an interview with Michael from the Superman homepage when he was at the Calgary Expo a few days ago.

Hahahaha Spiderwoman? Was there really a character called that on the old series? rofl.gif
The writers must have been unable to think of anything decent, so stole the idea from spiderman!laughing.gif

The ratings have been pretty good for season 7 in the US. But I expect season 8 to be the last.

not sure Laura Vandervoort I think she has be cut from  the cast.... I hope so as I didn't like the Supergirl spin

Plus

creators and executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have announced they're leaving at the end of season 7 so I am not too sure how Smallville will go netx year or even if it will get a full season if it doesn't rate early

It's sad to see Miles Millar and Alfred Gough go. However the new Executive Producers (Todd Slavkin, Darren Swimmer, Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson) have been writing and producing for the show for several years.

Apparently supergirl will not return as a series regular, as writers intend to keep Kara in the Phantom Zone until a later date.

Also it is likely that Lex will simply be "missing" as the new season begins. In his place the new character "Tess" will be looking over his assets. Producers hope to get Michael Rosenbaum back for guest appearances. (Whether or not they will be successful remains to be seen).

The CW have confirmed that Justin Hartley (the green arrow/ Oliver) will be returning to Smallville in Season Eight, not as a guest star, but as a series regular.
It is said that Oliver's story arc will delve into his past rather than his superheroic identity as the Green Arrow.

Shooting has begun on Season 8, However you may have to wait a little longer before you see it. Apparently the original premier date of September 18th has been pushed back to October 2nd!

Spoilers:
Expect to see more action between Lois and Clark - He's going to start working at the Daily Planet.

Executive producer Kelly Souders stated that this season's theme is going to be about 'double identities', the emergence of the public Superman persona, whilst Clark tries to maintain the appearance of a normal life.

Fans of the Justice League will be happy to hear that it will be returning this season, with an emphasis on Justin Hartley's character the Green Arrow.

The CW have officially announced that Sam Witwer (of Battlestar Galactica fame) will play Doomsday and Cassidy Freeman will play Tess, filling in for Lex's disappearance.
