With ratings beeing so unpredictable, with smallville lately its hard to tell if it will survive during the on - season.
Smallville will only be in once a week during the on-season at 7.30 Thursday, Smallville generally does better on Thursday nights, especially recently, so this is a good thing.
But will it last with heavy competition, Smallville is currently getting 800,000 - 900,000 viewers on Thursday night and is ranking well in its timeslot and for the night overall, but this is because there is little competition, during rating season these ratings are not high enough, Unless it is doing well specifically in the 16-39 demographic which channel 10 focuses on.
First of all. Hi! I'm Wendy. I'm also a Smallville fan and I'm guessing that at 34 years old, I'm probably the oldest member here. Thankfully I fit the demongraphic age group, so at least I don't have to feel that old.
Anyway, about whether the show will surivive the on-season ratings, I do think the series has a good chance. I think that one of the reasons why the ratings have been up and down during this third season, may have to do that most fans of the show (including myself), who have been tired of waiting for the show to return, already have the first three seasons on DVD. But from what I have read on various MBs, it seems that Smallville has gained some new fans.
Also, it would be good if one of the actors from Smallville could come over to Australia to give the show such much needed, extra promotion. I think someone like Michael Rosenbaum, who is great when it comes to interviews, would be a great canidate. Of course, I realise that this is all easier said then done. But it would be good if someone like Rove could interview them, which is a show that would mostly have the same age demongraphics as that of Smallville.
As we can see by the recent rating, Smallville is doing as well as it could be. Thankfully it's not doing extremely bad. But not good, either. Hopefully, by the time we reach season four the ratings will improve, since this season hasn't been released on DVD. However, my only concern is how many fans of the show bought season four from the US, and will that have an affect on the ratings?
Hi Aussie here. Smallville is brilliant. I have been watching Season 5 from America and know that if Smallville can be kept in the public eye- more info in the TV Week, have the Smallville novels available at the bookstores, the Smallville Campanion guides for sale in Australia, not to mention the two Smallvillle Talon Soundtracks, then it will gain even more popularity. Smallville is huge in America, and will be here too.
I hope so. It's just that it's one of those sci-fi/genre type shows that doesn't appeal to everyone. Channel 10's advertising hasn't been that great either. Compare how they advertise Supernatural or The OC to how they advertise Smallville. Smallville needs more publicity too for its actors. More interviews in magazines or on TV. If channel ten doesn't change the timeslot of it, it will accrue a loyal following. But I suppose in the end its the numbers that count.
Apparently they've bumped off Smallville from 27th April to make way for the Biggest Loser finale. And Smallville will air on 29th April ... a Saturday. And I think after the Biggest Loser Big Brother will start so Smallville might stay on Saturday nights. It would be good for them to try out Smallville at an 8:30 timeslot or after or before Supernatural. Anything except Saturday nights.
EDIT: Was just doing some searching and last week Smallville 76th most watched show beating Numb3rs at 78, Supernatural at 83, The OC at 89 and Rove Live at 92. The week prior to that it was 78th, before that it was 88, and before that 69. The ratings for Smallville goes up and down. The same for The OC. And sometimes Smallville beats The OC by a huge margin but The OC isn't threatened with a timeslot change only shows like Veronica Mars, Smallville and One Tree Hill which aren't particularly mainstream like The OC. I don't exactly know what my point is, it got lost in all the numbers. It's just annoying that they're ready to give up on Smallville so easy but not get rid of The OC. Smallville has a viciously loyal following, more loyal than I think The OC's. Lost my point in there somewhere.
The thing is The O.C. Does alot better in the the 16-39 demographic getting in the top 20 for 16-39, while Smallville comes around 40-50th in the 16-39 demographic top 50. As channel 10 focus on 16-39 people this is very important for them, and that is why they like the O.C., because it performs well in that demo.
But don't stress, after season 4 started, Smallville's ratings have increased and arnt doing too bad in the 16-39 demo coming around 38th, and plans to move it to saturday night have been cancelled. Plus it is in a competitive slot in terms of 16-39 year olds, as Las vagas is very popular in that demo.

i certainly hope so! i was sooo confused and frustrated when smallville didnt come on due to big brother, i hate that show!! im glad it hasnt stopped and my fave character is chloe!
I really hope that Smallville Survive because it's one of the best TV shows I have seen in years & it's getting better and better as the shows go on. I have recently pick up first 4 seasons & start to watch the first season :) it's soo much better seeing it the seconed time you pick anything you might have missed first time which is great :):):)
On Season 2 Michael is so funny on the commentary. Totally worth it for his commentary alone. But why is Kristin so quiet? Its like shes doesnt want to be there.
Also funny hearing them poke fun at Kristin and Kristin stressing the fact that it's Lana thats "jealous" of Clark and not Kristin :D
Unfortunately, Michael, Tom, Kristin arent on the commentary track for Season 4.
I wish i could browse other smallville websites. Im so afraid of spoilers.
why dont watch it, its like the best show ever, where have all the superman and smallville fans dissapeared to, where are you? i just cant believe that its doing so crap with the ratings, i always thought that the show was remarkable,
personally id watch anything if theres nothing on, id watch even the crappiest shows, and smallville isnt crappy at all, so i dont get how they cant take the time to watch it and who knows they might even like it, smallville had low ratings when it was on 7.30 fridays on ten, so wth, did the whole of australia watch better homes and gardens or what, cause thats the only explanation, i hate that stupid show. although i watch it sometimes when there is nothing on, lol
yeah, a couple of times i missed smallville cause i was out, and it killed me, i think tuesdays would be a good timeslot because there is nothing on, so im sure people would watch it then, or maybe on mondays before supernatural,
